Building custom Rear Front Sub Frame Mounts

The rear mounts ended up being a lot trickier than the fronts.  For those that remember, I did pull the mounts from the Acura RL donor car, but while the front mounts for the front sub frame worked out great, the rear was not going to happen.  The mount was too tall, and because the mount is right under the firewall, the shaping of the mount was all wrong.  After trying to attack it from several different ways I saw it was going to have to be a custom piece. Building the rear mount was going to be the only way to go.

To start building the rear mount I needed to space it about 2.5” from the existing frame, so I went with 2.5” hot rolled square tubing.  Then I built two adapter plates that would bolt into the frame where the existing stock civic sub frame bolted in.  This would allow me to make the rear mounts removable if I needed to access the factory fuel lines, rear brake lines, or breather line.  Once the plates were made and bolted to the car, I then centered the rear sub frame mounts and marked them to drill a hole through.  I then picked up two spacer nuts that were exactly the 2 and 1/8” I needed to fit perfectly in the square tubing.  I would then weld those nuts into the tubing to secure the bolt that drives up through the sub frame mount and attach it to the car.  From the pics below hopefully you can see what I am describing and how it all worked out.

I grinded the metal down with a 300 grit pad and then washed them dish soap (since it has a degreaser in it) and dried them. Then I layed down a light rustoleum primer coat, did 2 coats of rustoleum black, and finished it off with 2 coats of dupont extra thick clear coat for door jams. Because these are located under the car I can't have the paint flaking off and having rust problems with something so vitally important to the car.

Next step is to triple check the entire fitment and if all is well then I will fully weld in the front mounts, which are currently just tack welded in place.
